Refrigeration equipment with new energy labelRefrigeration equipment with new energy label - Tensai

Did you know...
(...) as of March 1, 2021, domestic refrigeration appliances will have a new energy class label ?

With a scale from A (most efficient) to G (least efficient) replacing the current A+++ to D, with the aim of helping consumers to identify the most efficient products more easily.

BRIEF EXPLANATION...

In practice, this change in scale means a further division of the classes currently in force, with the two new top classes (A and B) initially being empty of products, i.e. the current best product will be in class C.
With this scale, the Commission wants to encourage manufacturers to develop more efficient equipment. In the same vein, the new Ecodesign regulations, starting on March 1, 2021, mean that most types of domestic refrigeration appliances can no longer be marketed in class G, which includes some of the current A+ products, and on March 1, 2024, the new class F, which covers the vast majority of current A+ products, is set to disappear.

- Products made available by manufacturers to distributors as of November 1, 2020 must already include the new label inside the packaging in addition to the old one.

- The current label will continue to be the only one displayed at points of sale (physical and online) until March 1, 2021, and from that date traders have 14 working days to replace the labels with the new ones.

- If you do not have labels in the new format, for example when the product was in stock on November 1, 2020, you must ask the manufacturer to supply them within 5 working days.

- Current labels will only be allowed to be kept in special cases, namely when the manufacturer has ceased trading, so it is not possible to obtain a new label, or the product has been discontinued. The deadline for these exceptions is November 30, 2021.

- The new energy label includes a QR code with access to the EPREL database managed by the European Union. By scanning this code with their smartphone, customers can access the standardized product data sheet, energy label and other public information in the database, and authorities can access the technical data, making it easier to verify product conformity. This access to the database will also be possible via the internet.

- The classification from A to G will be reassessed regularly, and when several pieces of equipment reach class A, they will be graded again in order to encourage research and technological innovation in the search for ever more efficient products.

- In addition to domestic refrigeration appliances, televisions, dishwashers, washing machines and washer-dryers will also have new energy labels on March 1, 2021.
